Mannar Bridge and Causeway

The Mannar Bridge and Causeway connecting Mannar Island to the rest of Sri Lanka was opened on 18 March 2010. The bridge was financed by a 2.5 billion grant aid from the Japanese Government.

The bridge replaces a temporary bridge that had been put up following the destruction of the original bridge in 1990.

Thandikulam Railway Station

Thandikulam railway station had been in-operational for 20 years due to the Sri Lankan Civil War. The station was re-opened on 6 June 2009.

Notice the mis-spelling of the English name on the station sign - Thandikulam has been Sinhalised to Thandikulama. This was no mistake - this is just another example of the systematic Sinhalisation of Tamil lands.

The omnipresent Sri Lankan military were at this event, as they are at all events in the north and east.
